My Science
This Week’s Featured Research from My Lab
We have discovered that some people in their seventies are much poorer than younger people in realising when they have made a mistake on one of our laboratory tests. What’s more, if they are poor at this in the lab, they also tend to underestimate how absent-minded they are in everyday life. But the good news is that if you “tickle” the right frontal lobe of older peoples’ brains with a tiny torch-battery-level of electric current, then you boost their awareness of mistakes. We hope that we can develop this method to help train older people’s day to day awareness, as we hope this might help them avoid accidents and have other cognitive benefits. This research was done by PhD student Siobhan Harty, supervised by me and by my colleague Redmond O’Connell. If you want to read the paper, click here: Harty J Neuroscience
